Blatman
Er......everyone...... This story has been around for a while. I've never paid it much attention 'cos Elises are a mass produced irrelevance. Sticking a Toyota lump in the back won't change that.......
Nick M
Sadly not that wonderful an engine IMO. I have one fitted to my 2003 Pontiac Vibe GT (basically a re-clothed Toyota) and it's OK (nothing special at all) up to 6,000 rpm but then goes totally mad up to the red-line at a little over 8,000rpm. Only thing is it zaps round there so fast you never really get much chance to change gear before hitting the limiter and then, when you *do* change gear the revs drop so much that you're just out of the serious power band. It's a case of floor it wait it's getting going now wait a bit more OMFG !! bounce of rev-limiter change gear wait Oh FFS OMFG, here we go again !! etc., etc. At least the Honda VTECs seem to stay on the boil between gear changes. Graham Perry
So it needs a nice close ratio 6 speed box. I wonder if it would fit in a Caterham ?
andycox
Here in the USA Lotus have brochures showing the Elise with possible Toymotor lump so I expect they are making the change to get into the market here. Is it SUMMER yet? 😬
dino ferrana
Lotus have stated officially that they are sticking with the K-Series for this country. They may use the Toyota lump in the States but are sticking with the K for the foreseeable.
Chelspeed
I've seen one down in Swindon being mapped with a Civic VTEC engine fitted. Apparently the guy races it and is fed up with the unreliable standard engine.....
