Area Representative Tin Man Posted August 7, 2003 Area Representative Share Posted August 7, 2003 sounds like my CRB is on the way out, as I have a loud grinding noise when the clutch is pushed in ☹️ Is it an engine out job, or can it be pushed forward enough to get the hand inside the bell housing. My 7 has done 14,000 miles. Any other tips would be appreciated . All the best
Fred
If it is grinding you are best to remove the cover and check the whole assembly for damage also check the plate .

scooby dooby doo
yup - engine out. worth getting a few mates round and borrowing an engine crane. I hate the way garages try to grab us by the short and curlies just because most people don't have an engine crane... Jason Plato
You dont need and engine crane for a K , simply unbolt from the gearbox and using 2 people simply lift out the engine . Done it several times now . Easy . Dave
scooby dooby doo
depends how tight a fit all the ancillaries are i guess. I have things like dry sump pumps in the way... HOOPY R706KGU Hoopylight R
Jason Plato
the sump pump & alternator are there in the way if you use a crane or your hands , simply remove the engine bay diagonal and slip the alternator off . As you would even if you were using a crane . Or maybe you need more practise Mr Hoopy dave

John Vine
Tin Man, My sympathies. If your CRB proves to be knackered, you might find the thread here of interest. It also suggests a possible fix for your problem (assuming that it was caused by insufficient CRB pre-load). JV
Mick Day
A K series (wet sump) can be moved forward enough to change the CRB. Seen it done in the paddock on Le-Sept. Not tried it myself - yet! Mick
