Bafty Crastard
Is Comma Syner G not 5W-40 ? so where dose that leave the debate.
Roger King
Dear Bafty, You're quite right about the grade of Comma SynerG - seems that I had a bit of a 'typo' when I wrote my last entry
Bafty Crastard
Roger Its not that I'm "nick picking" I just object to paying Mobil 1 prices, if you are recommending Comma Syner G 5W-40 grade for crossflows thats good enough for me.
stocky
Blatman .... talking about Castrol R takes me back 30 years when I used to run a mini-cooper and spoonfeed it into the petrol tank every time I filled up. I presumed it acted as an upper cyl lub (nothing ever sooted up after 2 years), and it definitely smelt better than the obvious to which you refer. These days, I just don't see it around, is it still available? I run 1700 X-Flow and would probably use it if I could get it, and if it were suitable for the engine. Any thoughts anyone? FH
I think I'm probably one of the few sources of Castrol'R' left.... Andrew Russell
Coincidentally, I have just been to a local motor factors to stock up on Comma Syna G oil, and was surprised to see on the shelves a couple of 5 litre containers of Castrol R40 mineral oil. I didn't dare ask the price and cannot imagine why Brown Brothers of York keep this as a stock item! It was obviously newish stock in white plastic containers which seemed rather incongruous for such an historic product....surely it should have been in a green can! Certainly took me back 30 years to the fond memories of the aromas that used to drift in the air upon the approach to race meetings at Oulton Park during the 60's and early 70's. Not to mention the sound of unsilenced racing engines....... Gone but not forgotten......... Andrew.
Mg,Fe7Si8O22OH2
So what do the Vx experts reckon is best for my Vx 2.0 16v? I've just been throwing any old synthetic I can get my hands on at it. Seems to have coped so far but it is getting on a bit now. Maybe I should be a little more discerning? C.T.
mark.hall
15W 50 is what I use in my hydraulic lifter Vx.
Mg,Fe7Si8O22OH2
Thank you Mark. I assume that's the Mobil stuff? What about with a solid lifter engine? C.T.
mark.hall
I used to use Mobil 1, but the price is getting ridiculous, so as I'm about to do another oil change, I'm looking around for an alternative. I would think something like a 5W for solids.
