Support Team Shaun_E Posted July 17, 2003 Support Team Share Posted July 17, 2003 My steering column has started to squeak quite loudly when I turn the wheel - any ideas what this is and how to cure it? Shaun Yellow SL #

Chris W
The squeaking on my steering column turned out to be caused by the top rubber gaiter on the firewall as it enters the engine compartment. I squirted a small amount of WD40 just inside it and it hasn't squeaked since. Chris 2003 1.8K SV 140hp see it here
Support Team Shaun_E Posted July 18, 2003 Author Support Team Share Posted July 18, 2003 Zak - There's no play in it so I hope it ain't knackered. AVES - avoid bends? Not quite what I had in mind Steve - I only notice it when parking 😬 Chris Cheer's - I'll try the WD40 approach. Peter Carmichael
Better than WD40 would be a silicone based nylon and rubber lube.
