andygriffiths Posted July 17, 2003 Share Posted July 17, 2003 Ihave an lsd on a 92 vauxhall car.Is there any way of telling what type or make of diff it is without stripping the whole thing ie taking the back plate of.Iwant to change the oil and different types usually have a reccomended type ie quaife zf etc.Or is there a type of oil that will cover all types of lsd.Any help appreciated. Andy - if this is the case and you're getting some from Dave K, any possibility of getting an extra bottle - mines well overdue for an oil inspection / change etc. Stu. Peter Carmichael Posted July 17, 2003 Share Posted July 17, 2003 If you remove one de dion ear/hub and driveshaft (lift the caliper off and it is four bolts on the ear), you can look down the shaft hole in the diff. If you see a cross of steel rods, it is a ZF type. If a single bar, then its open. If neither of these then chances are it's a Quaife. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
R2D2 Posted July 17, 2003 Share Posted July 17, 2003 Yes, Motul LSD oil is quite safe for all types of diff. It is really only plate type LSDs that need specific oil but there is no harm in using it in any diff it's just a little more expensive. Quaife's will run with a standard diff oil but Motul LSD oil won't do them any harm at all. The AP Suretrack will be OK as well.
