I don't know about the speed issue, but I might be able to help with the database stuff as I have a reasonable amount of experience in it. Are there any moves afoot to improve/speed up the search so that we can have it back? It still sloooooow from home over ADSL :( Tell me more about the new blatchat and whence it cometh!!
