Swiss_Tony
Is it possible to remove the fuel tank from underneath? I did not want to remove the roll bar (I only fitted it a few weeks ago). Car is a '96 de-dion with carbs. Thanks in advance James
CHRIS CLARK
Mine had to come through the 'boot' therefore, roll bar off! Anyway, it's not that awkward.
Alex Wong1697456877
If the car is jacked up, it is possible to get the tank out downwards although the return feed can be tricky to get past the de-dion tube. It's easier the other way. To get it out upwards, it helps if the car is jacked up and then put on two axle stands, then getting the jack out of the way. By tilting the tank, one end of the tank can be lowered to the ground which gets the tank vertical. It can then be lifted upwards with the bar in place. I know this works with a de-dion FIA bar and standard tank (injection or carb) but I'm not sure about any other combination. Pierson Broome
With the help of a friend, I changed from an old steel tank to a new Ali. one on a de-Dion car from underneath without having the remove the (FIA) bar. With a bit of judicious wiggling it will fit between the tank mounts and the de-Dion tube (plus sundry 'other' bits...) - but make sure you get the car quite high in the air on axle stands in order to play with the angles. Swiss_Tony
Chris my roll bar is an FIA bar which means the rear shocks etc have to come out. I was hoping to avoid this as I only fitted it all a little while ago. Many thanks I will give it a go at the weekend. James
CHRIS CLARK
Aha, yes I understand. Got a leaky tank then? Good Luck with the removal 'down under' !thumbsup.gif Edited by - chris clark on 6 Feb 2001 22:28:
Swiss_Tony
Chris Just the usual cleaning job to be done. I am the sort of sad git who spends hours polishing the underneath of my car so it is as shiny as the top! Beats going down the pub! James
Swiss_Tony
Chris Hows the engine coming along? Is it nearly ready? I saw that you want an Emerald system for your car! What mods have you made?
