bas
Having just spent a small fortune on an R500 I now find I must change the silencer and airbox to get it quiet enough for track days..any alternatives?????
Bob Corb
Apart from not going to track days.....ehhh.... no. Annoying isn't it. I've just changed my engine to a VHPD (from a VVC) and was quite surprised by the amount of noise the induction makes. Rather than using Caterhams add on rear silencer have a chat with BTB in Woodford Halse (I think Richard Ince's R500 has one of their silencers) or alternatively a Techcraft "Goodwood" silencer from the 7 Workshop? You may be able to get an airbox direct from Reverie (who make the R500 one) for a bit less than the Caterham cost (but it just wont have Caterham written on it). I asked at Autosport and they thought they could do something... BC
Rob Walker
I concur on the silencer but I have run for two years without an airbox and have had no trouble and used Castle Coombe. I think the only tracks that are a problem are Goodwood, Bedford Autodrome and Thruxton.
IanT
No problems for me at Bedford with my Blackbird (airbox removed) and 7.25" Raceco silencer. Drive-by restrictions are easy to get by so concentrate on the static test (induction noise doesn't really matter here) by sorting out your silencer. Ian. YW Sin
I looove British Goverment for allowing noisy cars on the public road but noisy enough to be banned on racing tracks? I mean, I really do.
stevefoster
Start racing it. Same price as track days more balls on fun and MSA noise limit of 105 or 108 dB. P.S they all come in at 104 dB if you ask the sound marshal Marshals are car enthusiasts too see.... thinfourth
Don't know if it works but i have heard of folk stuff some wadding up the pipe before noise test, pass the test then full bore down the first straight no more wadding no more problem.
