ChrisC
Hi all Can anyone send me a picture of the expansion bottle under the carbs, I think it is used for the engine breather vent. Currently my car does not have this bottle and the underside get covered in oil vapour when on track. In the interest of keeping slippery stuff off the track I need to fit one of these tanks. I know I could buy an expensive catch tank, but this is only a temporary measure until I fit a dry sump system at the end of the year. I think the caterham part number for this is WSB180, does anyone know what vehicle this came from, because I might be able to find one in the local scrap yard. Thanks in advance. Chris.... popuplights
Hi Chris, If this is only to be a temporary thing, why not save yourself a lot of time and money and use an old plastic milk carton. ( I find a 2 pint one sufficent... ) and tie wrap it to a handy chassis member. I used one of these for years, just take it off and throw it away when it gets too full or manky. Connect the engine breather to the bottle with a hose, the oil vapour will condense out in the bottle. Paul

Sheds Moderator
My expansion bottle is a washer bottle from I suspect a MK1 Fiesta. No doubt Eccy, Orion, etc also fit. This hangs neatly on a little bracket as does the washer bottle, which is of course identical. You can tip it out when it fills up with water/oil/snot. Then again the Coke/milk bottle is cheaper and lighter.
ChrisC
I was making the assumption that the washer bottle bracket under my carbs was put there for the purpose of fitting a washer bottle as a catch tank. This I am assuming because the parts manual list two washer bottles for a VX2.0 calling one an expansion bottle. Currently I only have one washer bottle (used for covering me and my screen in water when cornering on track, and to pass an MOT), an empty bracket under the carbs and the engine breath is a pipe which run only to the under side of the car. Mr Locust
The tapered bracket thingies were used on leyland cars. You probably want an older one with external rather than built in water pump - Princess, Maxi, Mini, Allegro, dolomite etc. Maybe visit your local (old style) scrappy or a mini specialist? Or a parked up Mini 😬
