Colin Gregory
I'm planning to do something with my ageing X-Flow. As well as having it re-built to a 155 bhp specification, I was wondering what would be involved in changing to a Vauxhall engine. Has anyone carried out this modification? If so what else has to be changed to enable the engine to fit and what are the pitfalls. Thanks Colin Gregory
Dave H
Colin, The standard replacement for the crossflow is the Zetec, either 1.8 or 2L will "drop in" with very little trouble. A 1.8 with uprated cams will give 175 bhp without too much trouble. A Vauxhall can be fitted, but you need to get the bell housing adaptor, as the engine has the holes in different places and won't line up with the current bell housing. It has been done - Lol Pilfold and Roger Swift are 2 I can think of. Dave H
Peter T
Only try this if you are very very good with a spanner, and have lots of hours to spare, i have just carried out this conversion in a 91 Dion, not many Caterham parts fit ! Time consuming was an under statement, and costs was unreal But the end result was worth it , having replaced an all steel monster x- Flow ! C7 PWT Pure Steel XE.
