Crossflow Water Pump Help Please!

Ronbo

Recommended Posts

The water pump on my 1700 Crossflow has decided to call it quits. It looks fairly straight forward to replace, but I was hoping those that have been down this road before can warn me of any areas to look out for. It looks as though the pulley must come off before the pump, and I see it's held on by 4 bolts. Is it also pressed on to the shaft? Also, would anyone have the torque specs on the bolts that hold the pump on? Any and all help greatly appreciated!!

Ronbo,

It's pretty easy really. Remember, it's just a Ford, so I just do the bolts up by feel. The only tip I have is to really grease up the bolts so that they don't corrode. I had one that rusted in and then snapped! Boring.

There are two types of Ford water pump.

Both will fit your engine - but only one will fit your pulley.

The difference is the distance between the pulley and the block.

The later type should be the one you need but check just in case.

My 7 was originaly fitted with an early pump and had a spacer inside the pulley

Oliver is quite correct - I've had a bolt shear removing a Xflow water pump, I'd reccomend WD40, heat and care during removal and copaslip (copper grease) on the threads on reassembly.

Good luck *thumbup*
