Racing graduate VX 1.6 this year on Avon CR322's From new (8.5mm) how much should I be buffing off for max performance? Peter Carmichael Posted January 28, 2001 Share Posted January 28, 2001 The principle of buffing is to do with heat generation and heat dispersal in the tread and possibly tread block distortion. If the former, then on a colder day you will want more tread. Time for Mister pyrometer I guess. Although it may well be that from 8.5mm you want to go to ~5mm. I can'r imagine that doing any harm.
