Worst car you have ever owned

Just to help take the heat off the BMW drivers for a while 😬... what is the worst car ever owned by blatters? Personally the cars I have owned (including a mini and (gasp!) a 4wd) have all withstood the buckets of punishment doled out to them quite well, but I have had some shocking rental cars including a Yaris which I liken to driving a washing machine - except a washing machine probably has a more powerful engine and better build quality.

Worst car you have ever owned 🤔 - Oops - this should have gone on chitchat but the new topic button was not working .....

Ford Focus

Good to drive, spent eight weeks off the road in its first year with electrical problems.

Crap dealers (ie: spent a week in the garage, on return, major problem not fixed, told we can look at it again in three weeks, and no courtesy car). Accept that you occasionally get faults on new cars, but will be looking at a BM or similar for my next tin top (specifically for aftersales).

Mind you Caterham arn't exactly fantastic on the aftersales side (processing credit card transactions excepted 🙆🏻)

Once had a previously much used Montego company car , which as you can imagine I was less than happy about. But give it its due it took me 3 months to break, which included many trips along the M25, foot nailed to the floor in 3rd gear, changing from 5th to 1st without braking was common place. Eventually it was the gear box that broke not the engine, quite a testomony to the Leyland lump!!

On the hill not over it!

Where to start....

Hillman Imp - my first ever car.....great engine, awful transaxle, huge positive camber on the front, heater but no fan (it was extra!) so only warm over 50mph in the winter *eek* and the clutch only lasted about 15000 miles....

Ford Cortina 1600 MkII - engine blew up crossing Redhill Common one night...best thing that could have happened to it!

Renault 30 V6 Auto - had an automatic choke that kept sticking on resulting in 6mpg !!! *eek* nice big reclining armchair seats though 😬

Ahhh but I also have some great memories........

Vauxhall Viva 2300 (the rectangular headlight version before they changed it and called it the Magnum), the thinking man's RS2000 and just as good IMHO

Suzuki SC100 (aka Whizzkid) - always started, stopped and went round the corners, just a bit cramped that's all....always got funny looks as it crawled past someone maxed out at about 80mph on a motorway 😬

1969 Mini Cooper S 1275.. bought it new.. Broke constantly.. Took it apart Reassembled it as a Serious C Sedan Race car.. still broke repeatedly, but at least it was fun racing it, and besides all the other Sods I raced against had the same problems.

2nd worst was a '74 BMW 2002 Tii,, special ordered it, took 6 months to arrive.. was reliable but hugely dissapointing Performance wise.

Got a ticket for doing 85 trying to keep up to a VW superbeetle in a crosswind...who knew a beetle could even go that fast..Bmw was all over the damn road.. so much for the Fabled German Roadholding,

unbelievable but true, still have the Ticket as a Souvenir :-)

Sold the car in disgust about a week later.

Mini metro - the worst thing anybody could be driven to use!!!!

Only managed a bit of character after getting 1330 cc and 330sp cam (experimental failure - discontinued very soon after issued - can't remember if it was piper or kent!?!).

Cam used to knock in at 5000 - mental!!

Or maybe "I" was mental

Austin Allegro 🙆🏻

My first & worst car (was given to me so not out of choice)

Second worst- VW Beetle, slow, thirsty, noisy & handled like the front & back were held together by paperclips. 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻

West is best!!!!

Morris Marina 1.8, first and worst.

Full of rust, trunion problems every couple of weeks, damplers leaked all their fluid (so refilled them with EP90!! Rock solid handling for 2 weeks until all the seals blew!).

Did have fun with it though! Taught me all I'll ever need to know about handling 😳

Was built like a tank. Rolled it once, got it back in its wheels knocked the dents out and it was good for another few months!

Did many laps of Pembrey circuit in it before they blocked the hole in the fence to get on!!!

😬You laugh at me because I'm different, I laugh at you because you're all the same. 😬

All my cars have been good in their own way.

Yes, there was the totty magnet (NOT) of a mini 850.

Yes, the Datsun 180B TC that could do a ton ten plus (ok only on the speedo) and rusted away around me.

Yes, there was a Saab 96 that would not start when the temp was below minus 15 C.

Yes, there was the up turned jelly mound Opel Kadett.

Yes, A Honda Accord, yawn I'm bored.

yes, A V6 3.0l auto Senator (actually that was ok)

yes, A Honda civic (I'm still bored)

yes, A Pug 405 GTDT that over heated (idiot dealer fitting a towbar disconnected the fan).

yes, the Cavalier GSI (urm ok apart from the gear linkage failure)

yes, the Sharan that the locks froze on and the door would not shut until they had thawed. Again hard to do in 20 minus C. + side. Big enough to get a matress in the back *wink* with the seats out.

now, there is a Daewoo and a ZX diesel in my life. Yes things have got worse lately but they still do the job

and I have my 7 😬 The 3 7's I have owned have been the best cars by far

My racing pics, 7 DIY, race prep. Updated often here

K´s are recycled coke-cans, not engines. That´s why they´ve got wet liners.. 😬

Worst car: Chris Coopers Gulf Superlight R. Drove it the first time in switzerland, a hell of a race it was. Flipped it over in turn 3 after a collision in the chicane. Or doesn´t slotcar count in here ? *confused*

Honestly, a Daewoo Matiz for two weeks on the Canary Islands. 3 Cylinders, sounds like a race car, just lacks the performance. Revved the **** out of it and it didn´t break *thumbup*

Granada 2.0 Diesel, back in the time when diesels were diesels- 1984.

0-60 in about 3 weeks, but when I inadvertedly rear-ended 4 other Brit mobiles whilst checking the bit of fluff on my business suit (oh err missus!)on the way into the lights, I was the only one to drive away.

My mum's Volvo 340. 'Nuff said. "Comical handling" to quote another conributor.

And, oddly, my first ever car - Alfasud: flat 4, wonderful handling and sound.

But embarrassingly inconvenient when your fuel tank falls out. Hole/recycled Mezzogiorno washing machine, held together with bits of rust. Marvellously stupid.

1 car was a Viva, which had to have a recon engine. Problem was I blew it up 5 times! Never did manage to get a recon engine to last the runing in period! Eventually fitted 2nd hand engine from breakers.

2 Car was 1.5 Civic (original shape very few imported). This thing was so neutral with it's handling that you could throw it around like a mini except it had a lot more power. Car died of piston ring failure in the end, but it was fun blowing away all the MGB boys in this little car.

3 Had a Cavalier MK1 that wanted to go forever..........got bored at 130,000 and gave it away.

4 Couple of Astra's that did exactly what it said on the tin

5 Mondeo, that was goodfun for a large car, shame 2.0 Zetec didn't have more punch or willingness to go!

6 Volvo V40, God that estate part is small, but well screwed together.

7 Various Escorts and Focus's which were okay......! Focus was 1.8 which couild almost out drink my Seven!

8 Toyota Avensis CDX.......CRAP! Proves that the sum of the parts doesn't make a good car! Had every toy possible but that was it. Could also drink a bit of oil..! May have been the way I treated it? *eek*

9 Currently VW Passat TDI........Very impressed so far, love the diesel engine...leaves MGF's for dead.

One question for the viewers. "Why are Caterhams to poorly manufactured? My passat mas coverd 7,000 hard miles and as yet to show any signs of it's age. My Caterham has also covered 7,000 miles and has taken tender loving care and no wet use to stop it turninig into a pile fur and rust? When you consider that the VW caost a lot les than the Caterham why are we given such poor std of finish
