lee.spencer
I am faced with a total gear box rebuild on my Lotus 1558cc Twin Cam 7, can I use this opportunity to upgrade to a five speed gearbox? If so which ones should I be looking at. Lee
Nigel Riches
As far as I am aware the bolt hole pattern to mate bellhousing to engine is the same as the x-flow and the Ford 5 speed type N gearbox will mate to that, you may need a spacer between the gearbox and the bellhousing due to the length of the first motion shaft, the overall length of the 5 speed is greater than that which you presently have, so some realigning of the gearbox mount will be necessary, I have a Mk1 Capri bell housing, alloy spacer, then the gearbox, ex 2.0 L sierra with B.G.H. Geartech ratios, and it all hangs together O.K., gearshift position will be changed also, regards Nigel. 1982. 5 speed, clamshells. B.R.G / Ali. The True Colours. Bare
Toyota t5 type.. Very good (all useable ;-) ratios, excellent shift action/feel and it's got an aluminum case.. Not Cast Iron. Pretty well unbreakable as a pleasant bounus. Yes you will have to fool with the mountings, but it's not serious, it's been done before.
