F355GTS
Whats the wisdom on this? The label suggests they can be dry cleaned and last time the local store said nothing but this time round they want to send them away for a 'fire resistant' treatment Mark
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted June 19, 2003 Leadership Team Share Posted June 19, 2003 Nomex as a branded product is a modified aramid fibre - it is generically fire retardent and has no "fire resistant" treatment applied. Try another dry cleaners. Stu.
not a Postman Pat
'fire resistant treatment' - isn't that water? I agree with Stu. Pat and his not quite black and white cat
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted June 20, 2003 Leadership Team Share Posted June 20, 2003 There are fire resistent treatments available - normally used on cotton based products. Not the same animal so to speak. Stu.
Chelspeed
Proban (the "other stuff" you get race suits made in) is normal cotton with a treatment added. Repeated washing (seen 25 times quoted) will remove it and then it's just cotton.... Nomex is inherently fireproof so you can wash it or dry clean it any number of times without affecting it's fire proofedness (is that a word?). My nomex gets washed after every sprint and stage rally, perhaps 20 times a year. Why do you feel the need to dry clean it?
F355GTS
Thanks guys It needs cleaning after the dedion snapped not because it was a brown trouser moment but I ended up covered in grease from a split drive shaft gaiter Mark
Peter Carmichael
The suit should have specific instructions on the label for which dry cleaning processes are applicable. Mine does.
