david nelson
I a starting to look for a 2nd hand 7. This will my 2nd 7 the previus was a 1.6 supersport. I am unsure if it is better to go with a 1.8 or a 1.6 engine. For my money it looks as if i might be able to get a 1.6 superlight (6 years old) or a newer 1.8 roadsport. Which car/engine is most tunable. I know that I will have to do some suspention work on the roadsport unless I find a high spec one many thanks David
david nelson
Or would it better to get a 6 speed 1.6 supersport and spend the money on upgrades? Thanks David
Peter Carmichael
The 1.6 and 1.8 are almost equally tunable seeing as it is the head spec that determines power and they share the same head. For any given power level, the 1.6 will have to rev higher than the 1.8 but this only balances out the stresses in the bottom end because the 1.6 has lower piston speeds at any given rpm and better rod angles. Dave J (with some valid points) advises that the 1.6 is sweeter to drive and has developed his 1.6 to over 220 bhp. From this perspective I would advise going for the Superlight because it is the much more complete package with big brakes, LSD and the correct tyres.
