Weight distribution

My VX was 47.23% front 52.77% rear with me in the drivers seat back pre race set up. That was with a fair bit of fuel though..

Race prepped car is at 49% front, 51% rear with 5 lts of usable fuel.

Rory's XF de dion was 48.21% front 51.71 rear. My XF was similar to this too.

Phil's live axle XF was 46.69% front, 53.31% rear. Bout 15lt of fuel from memory.

All of these are with Drivers who vary in weight. Rory is quite a bit heavier then Phil!

The fuel thing makes a big difference as it is hung out at the back.

The VX and K have the lumps moved aft a fair bit. XF and straight forward Zetec conversions have the lump in a more forward position.

The XFlows have a slight weight forward bias without fuel. Mine handles better with more weight at the back, and a few cars have had their engines moved back. This suggests that a slight rearward bias is desirable.

Funny, I was talking to Steve about this at the weekend. My understanding was that the crossflows had a slight front weight bias and that was certainly the case with my car on Hyperion's flat floor, even with the heavier RS2000 axle. Raceline say that their Duratec engined car is the first Ford-engined Caterham as having a rearward weight bias.
