Ralph Morgan
Having put up with the pathetic standard fit wipers for 10 years now on my Supersprint (as an all-weather, no hood, user) there surely must be a better way to help me see where I'm going in the rain! Are the Caterham OE items any better these days, or does anyone know of a suitable alternative that works? Nothing in my local parts shops is small enough, but I recall someone suggesting headlamp wipers from, I think, a Ford Granada.
Dave H
I got fed up with the visibility (or lack of) using the Caterham wipers so I've dumped the whole lot - wipers, doors & screen. Fitted aero screens and wear a full-face helmet when its wet - seeing is no longer a problem...
Super_Rich_Bernie
Have you tried RainX ? It gives the screen a kind of non stick coating, the water beads and runs off the screen in the airstream. Halfords sell it. I have found it works very well. Allen Payne
Have you tried the wipers blades that James Whitting sells, they clear the water away unlike the last ones I had which just spread it around! murph7355
Allen Do the JW ones still have the razorblade-esque piece of metal in the middle that gives the main blade holder some degree of movement on the arm? I ask because I've just fitted a new screen (thanks Keith - looks superb!) and don't want it getting scratched as my old one did... I've bent the wipers as much as possible to make the rubber perpendicular to the glass, but it still looks like there may be metal to glass contact if the rubber wears at all. Allen Payne
Andy, Yes they do. The wiper blade rubber is squashed between in the metal case and there is a lose pivot connection for the wiper arm. My screen already has some old wiper scratches - I don't believe these blades have added to them. The blades also needed trimming as they were about an inch too long. murph7355
Bugger. What I really want is Bosch to make a nice set of plastic ones. Do you think if we started a "bulk buy" we could get them to make some? Maybe I'll ask. fool on the hill
I vaguely remember someone telling me that land rover wiper blades can be adapted to fit but i have no details anybody know more? James If it ain't broke, maybe it's time I had a look at it...
Pierre Gillet
I had the same problem but think that I was able to fix it by bending with " authority" the arm ( I had to respay it in satin black afterwards). Yes, it seems that Old Land Rovers with flat screens use the same blades which have to be shortened using a junior hacksaw and some care... CHRIS CLARK
And did you make them different lengths as I suggested Mr Pierre (to give maximum coverage) ?
Pierre Gillet
Yes Chris, they are most probably of different lengths... Pierre
CHRIS CLARK
Ah, but Pierre. Is this due to design, or failure to measure correctly ?
David Mirylees
You could make your own - I did and they have been magic for many years now. Also a plus is that you can replace the rubber with standard replacements from virtually anywhere. They appeared in Low Flying years ago - I am sure that Barry can find the piece if required........smile.gif
