Insurance - HHH second thoughts...

I'm trying to sort out the insurance for the 7 I'm due to collect on Saturday. A few weeks ago, I'd pretty much filtered the insurance companies down to HHH and MSM with HHH being slightly in the lead due to a low excess and 'enlightened' views about security options.

HHH have been almost impossible to contact on their Peterborough number (the general offices say they can't handle 7's) - the phone is usually either engaged, or rings out in the mid-late afternoon.

Are they this hard to get hold of when you need to make a claim? Perhaps I ought to go back to MSM for a second quote...

Yep, tried all the usual suspects.

Footman James didn't impress - the quote was ok on price, but the woman I spoke to wasn't a joy to speak to and didn't even ask what the postcode of the storage location was (it is different to my home address) - they also wanted Thatcham Cat 1 (alarmed IIRC) immobilisation which this won't have.

The Eggar Lawson crowd were helpful, but couldn't come anywhere near on price due to my 'lack of high performance experience' (first seven) - although with a Cadence course, this would bring the price down to the ballpark.

MSM have been consistantly helpful and easy to reach - their quote has just jumped 60 quid apparently 'cos I'm buying a 2 year old car rather than a 3-ish - strange though as the valuation figure dropped by just over 1000GBP...

I'll try HHH in the morning for once - if they are still hard to reach, MSM get the business regardless.

Well, I gave HHH another chance this morning - and I couldn't get through again (busy initially, then the phone just rang out).

Just phoned MSM and they've got the business - very helpful and reassuring.

Just hope I won't need to call them for another 12 months...

I spoke to HHH yesterday re changing my existing cover. I had same problems re engaged / ringing off hook. I spoke to the main Peterborough office who old me the specialist unit was short a couple of staff and hence struggling to cope. I did eventually get through plus they called back in response to the message i'd left with the main Peterborough number. Docs arrived yesterday after 1.5 days. Not bad.

I bought my first 7 in Feb and insured it through "Need2insure" (Advertise in Top Gear Magazine etc)

Chap I spoke to could not have been more pleasant or clued up. Got fully comp insurance on 98 Vx 175bhp for me (37 yr old fart) plus 4 named drivers for £236pa (£100 excess, full legal cover and breakdown recovery anywhere in Europe). I'm not at home just now but will be happy to forward the guys name if you want (I do remember that he mentioned he spends most of his time polishing his Escort Cosworth ! ....... Ok, if you like comfortable family cars I suppose!)

All paperwork was sent within 24 hrs of phone calls and they changed my insurance docs for free whan I fitted a personalised plate on the car.

Can't speak highly enough of either service or price

I've been with HHH for a couple of years and haven't had any problems, good service, smart staff, rapid response......until about six weeks ago when I had the same phone problen, dumb staff and poor response. They seem to have gone off the boil!!

my insurance claim was "I have worn out my engine by sucking cement in through the induction system when I ran over a bag in the road", "and how long have you been running with all this cement in your engine?", "well, about 3 months", "let me just check...yep, that's covered sir."

Not titillating I'm afraid!

I've just been paid out through MSM for an incident involving grounding the sump which dislodged the sump plug and lack of oil leading to a seized engine...through the good auspices of this forum I was told that this constituted "impact damage" and literally 6 months after having the engine rebuilt I then put a claim on through MSM. it took 5 months of faffing around from the insurance company but they finally paid up in full. Throughout that time Dave Spragg championed the case for me and I can't praise his serivces enough *thumbup*
