gareth
Mike Bees or someone clever what is the height of a K engine, sump to cam top, I now have another spare 2ltr Honda F20C engine with dry sump at 590mm tall. Would be fun if it fitted
Mike Bees
No-one clever around, you'll have to make do with me smile.gif I'll have a go at measuring it tonight. The K is canted over to get it to fit (it's quite tall). Mike Edited by - Mike Bees on 15 Jan 2001 17:30:
gareth
Thanks Mike, this engine produces 250BHP with cat and exhaust recirculation, and I hope for an easy 275BHP +
Graham Perry
At the motorsport show, I measured numerous small twin Cams, but have since lost the piece of paper with the measurements (yes I am useless) However, I do remember that the K was the tallest, the Vauxhall 1.6 Ecotech next, then that super little Zetec SE engine was shorter still (its a pity its built backwards as it would make a good engine for a seven) but the shortest of them all by a good margin was a Toyota 4AGE engine that was extraordinarily compact. Mike will be along shortly with the exact dimensions of a K series.
Mike Bees
And here I am. Being pretty useless myself I didn't make it out into the garage last night, but according to PTP's website (www.powertrainprojects.co.uk) a 1.8 K-series is 615mm tall. That'll be with the std. transverse sump, although I don't think the height is reduced by an awful lot with the Caterham sump. I guess that's the bottom-to-top height as if it were mounted upright (in which mode it wouldn't fit into a Caterham). Mike
gareth
That means a S2000 engine will fit with Mugen dry sump, How big is a Caterham six speed length and width, if approx the same as Honda's 6 which is visually small, all that would be needed would be a prop shaft tailor made. Life can't be this easy
Mike Bees
Dimensionally similar to the Ford Type 9 if that helps - they're interchangeable. The 6-speeder weighs 29kg. Mike
Rob Walker
Gareth, Don`t Honda engines run anti-clockwise, what will you do about a diff ?????
dogvet
There is a w e s t f i el d at Plays-Kool with a v tec engine in and it produces a lot of power. they have also overcome the direction of rotation.Mail them for details.
Nick M
I believe the S2000 engine rotates the "right" way - something about Honda then being able to sell it to other manufacturers.
murph7355
Can I ask how you come by a "spare" one of these? I imagine this engine would be brilliant in a 7! C7 AJM
Jason Plato
If the engine turns the other way ...... fit the diff upside down . Now where have I heard that before ..... HeHe :-) I believe the S2000 uses our old AP Suretrac diffs !!! dave Edited by - dave j on 16 Jan 2001 17:20:
Slipper man
I've often wondered about what a seven with an S2000 lump would be like. How heavy is it, as a matter of interest?
gareth
Ok The S2000 engine does rotate the correct way, first one to do so. I just happen to have collect several of these engine for a race project S2000. The engine weight is approx 150Kg I am very tempted to get a tape measure out
gareth
PS Forgot to tell you I only paid £2K for 2 engines, now that is cheap BHP per £
murph7355
Are we allowed to swear on the forum... So if your measurements work out it looks like the loom will be the only headache (though cooling it might be a hassle as well?). Can you get these engines fairly readily then? Am happy with the k at the minute, but this certainly sounds like it has promise... C7 AJM
Mike Bees
Does the 150kg include the 'box? If not then that's one hell of a lump! Even if it does it's still a fair old lump. Mike
gareth
Mike Can't be too heavy I picked the block up and moved it
Paul Ranson
The engine weight is approx 150Kg That seems horribly heavy. On the Swindon Racing Engines stand at Autosport was a 2 litre development of the Ford/Yamaha 1700 Zetec aimed at F3 from next year. I think they are estimating 75kg. No prices on that flyer. Their GM based 3 litre V6 comes in at 141kg for 406BHP, height just under 600mm, width 520mm. Would that fit in a Caterham? UKP18950 in ones. gareth
I guess 150Kg must be wrong, i KNOW it is lighter the the VX lump, I tried to lift that and now have a bad back. PS Mike - She who must be obeyed say I am big. Enough said !!
