Reindeer Posted August 11 Share Posted August 11 Morning All, I have done my very best searching previous threads but I can't find one that covers the Ford Gearbox in the SV chassis.....2008 Factory built car. BigCol Posted August 11 Share Posted August 11 (edited) It wasn’t expected that the oil in a Type 9 gearbox would be changed, so there’s no drain plug by design. Some specialists have fitted a plug to the sump (due to proximity of a swarf-attracting magnet, it’s not recommended in situ) but as standard, if you want to change your oil, it’s by sucking the old stuff out through the fill plug. On the SV, there is a chassis cross-member adjacent to the fill plug so that’s all easier said than done! Hi, That looks as if it's been retro fitted alright, I fitted my drain plug there. At various times quite a bit of info comes up about tapping the gear box. Pretty well always in other make forums who also use the type 9. Can also be placed in the aluminium sandwich plate between the box and the tail piece. It wasn't a difficult fit even in situ and does make it a lot easier to drain the oil. All I'd say is be very careful tightening it up, I was surprised how thin the cast iron is there!
