For Sale is my Caterham 7 CSR 260

Price £28,500

Reg:                       W111CSR

Mileage:               34,764

1st Registered:    1/10/2005

I bought this CSR via Callum @ Turn 7 earlier this year as I wanted to experience a really fast Caterham after several 100 – 150 bhp 7’s in the past. I got my wish. This thing is eye wideningly fast but I’m considering selling to fund another bucket list car in the form of a 1960’s Lotus Elan.

The Caterham archive shows that this particular CSR has been resold by Caterham twice & I know that it has been owned by several Caterham & Lotus 7 Club members over its 19 years. There is big a file of paperwork / history that will come with the car along with the various road tests magazines I saved from 2005 (Evo etc)

Standard Caterham CSR 260 specification including the stiffer chassis, wide track wishbones, inboard front suspension with aero section wishbones & fully independent rear suspension developed by Multimatic / Caterham plus the AP racing 4 pot brakes.

Pretty much every option box ticked when ordered new including the integrated dash, heated windscreen, heater, black pack, leather seats, side screen arm rests, 12v USB socket, carpets, starter button, exposed carbon front wings & carbon aero whiskers. The front indicator pods & rear arch guards are also in carbon fiber plus it has the lowered floors, battery master switch, track day roll bar (painted body colour) & 4-point Caterham harnesses.

The 1st owner asked Caterham to install their full engine bay / transmission tunnel thermal insulation package at its 1st service & it is still doing a good job of keeping the heat away from the cabin.

The 2.3 Cosworth developed 260bhp dry sump Duratec engine has a Power Speed 4 into 2 into 1 exhaust with Zircotec black coated primaries & has been mapped by Northampton Motorsport to give nice smooth performance & driveability.

Bodywork is in very good condition with the Arancio Argos Lamborghini Orange paint having been PPF protected in the areas that usually suffer stone chipping.

6 speed gearbox & 3.62 : 1 limited slip differential (rebuilt a few years ago by Road & Race Transmission in Kent). Recently refurbished 15" Superlight alloys with new Avon ZZS 195/50 R15 fronts & 245/40 R15 rears fitted in March.

Other accessories include, Powervamp battery & mount, SPA GT mirrors mounted to the doors, mechanical oil pressure gauge, Oxted ½ Hood plus tonneau, genuine Caterham LED headlights, JAL rear LED lights plus high-level brake light.

I recently undertook a process of refurbishment as the car had seen little use during the few years with a major service & suspension rebuild to tidy everything up & replace the potentially troublesome CSR damper clevis brackets with the fit & forget Team Leos parts plus all new fasteners.

This work included:

·         Rear suspension strip, crack test damper mounts (near side was cracked) & replace both with Team Leos parts & rebuild with all new BZP fasteners.

·         Clean, rust proof & repaint rear wishbones, track control arms & check / replace / lubricate spherical bearings.

·         Strip, clean inspect, lubricate & reassemble front & rear brakes.

·         Replace brake fluid & pressure bleed.

·         Replace alternator / water pump drive belt. (Gates 6PK1320)

·         Replace air filter (Pipercross C-603D)

·         Replace oil & oil filter (Ravenol 5W-50 fully synthetic & Mann W77)

·         Replace spark plugs (4x NGK BP7EFS)

·         Replace fuel filter (Bosch 0 986 450 119)

·         Replace both engine mounts.

·         Strip, clean, rebuild gear-shift & replace saddle bush with Burton Power bronze bush plus a new genuine Rose bearing.

·         Rebuild of driver’s seat with an Oxted re-trim kit.

To avoid wasting time I’ll state that the bottom corner of the passenger side of the windscreen is cracked (probably caused by a passenger using the top of the windscreen as a handle to assist getting out of the car) but it passes MOTs just fine. There are one or two small spider cracks in the paint on the rear arches where stones have hit the underside, plus a tiny defect on the side of the scuttle where the tax discs use to be.

This is a seriously quick & nicely specified / serviced Caterham CSR 260 that is fit & ready to go, complete with its W111CSR number plate, service history file, owner’s manual & the Cosworth engine build file signed by the original engine builder.

Based near Ashbourne Derbyshire & happy to send any additional info or pictures as required.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the positive comments.

I'm hoping it's keenly priced so I can secure a quick sale.

Nothing wrong with it & drives really well. Just returned from a 2 hour each way trip to watch the Club's cars sprinting at Loton Park. Lovely part of the country & decent roads over Shropshire way!

Cheers

Ian
