Cerakote Exhaust and Primaries

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to get my exhaust and primaries cerakoted by a local company (https://www.eastmidcoat.com/ they are just down the road from me and the price is very good £120+VAT for the application and then the price of the paint on top, which should be 1L of the v-series https://www.cerakote.co.uk/product-category/cerakote-coatings/v-series/ which is £138) So quite a good price all in.

Before I rush into this though I was wondering how many of you have done this, and what colours you have gone for (Exact names would be nice!).

BigCol has a black of some sort which looks quite smart:

ColinT has a bronze style one (which looks like the burnt colour you get from the exhaust and looks really tidy):

I like the look of the Cobalt black, just wondering if anyone has it done in that colour?

Cheers

Yeah my whole car is based on this black/red/white theme (I've even got a set of the older KN 8 spokes 6 + 8s to go on it as I'm not a big fan of the newer apollos), It's just a question of how much I get done in the black, the primaries, cat and or the whole thing!

I still can’t recommend getting this done enough.

Why is that, Colin? Is it just a cosmetic thing or have you had any real benefits? I've thought about it several times but been put off by seeing how they look after several thousand miles (admittedly that car had white powdercoating). Also some stories of it being bad for the metal.

My bits were Cerakoted by Kirdford Shot Blasting & Powder Coating.  Colour was Satin Black.

From memory, total cost for headers, cat, exhaust and a couple of other bits was sub-£400 including shipping.  That was 18 months ago.

I guess this is what i would call ceramic coating?  I built a Norton 850 engine 20? years ago now and went a little over the top with ceramic coating things, Piston crowns, valves, combustion chambers, exhaust ports and exhausts, valve spring seats and inlet ports.  I expected the ceramic coating would peel off and blow out the exhaust but it is still going to this day.

My other vice/money pit is Mini Mokes.  I rebuilt a 1275 engine for my daily about 3 years ago and i had the pistons ceramic coated along with a lubricity (is that a word?) coating on the skirts and an anti heat coating under the crown of the pistons.  The exhaust extractors were done in a satin black and the inlet manifold in gloss black.  I am currently building another 1275 for my second Moke and it is getting the same treatment so i guess that means i vote yes for the specialist coatings.

Cheers

Dave

Be really interested how you get on with getting this done. I am not far from that place and want to get at least the primaries done. Was worried about cleaning and stone chips on exposed bits

I had my exhaust coated Matt black by Zircotec in Abingdon in 2018 no stone chips

No idea if it improves performance, but i squeezed 216bhp out of a 1.8k series at Emerald.

I had my rear exit silencer Cerakoted as the original black paint finish was grey and tired, which let the car down.

That was over a year ago and the finish of the Cerakote looks as good as it did when first done...definitely recommend it over HT paint!

Oooh, that does look good.

I did attempt to wrap my headers, failed to get it looking as nice as I wanted so I un-wrapped them and sulked. 😞

Perhaps paying people to do a better job, or provide a better solution, is a good way of spending money.
