First drive question 420R

Recommended Posts

I'm picking up my 420 R on Saturday and have a couple of questions:

  • Tyre pressures.
  • What is the normal coolant operating temperature.
  • What is the normal oil operating pressure.

Thanks.

Many tyres are 18psi when cold.

Assume a Duratec ... Coolant temperature probably 90-95 ?

Oil pressure .... Probably 4-5 bar cold or at revs. 1.5-2 bar when hot and idling

Enjoy it. Careful with your right foot. Wear narrow shoes. Wear hearing protection.

My Duratec runs just over 2 bar at hot idle.

Coolant temp will depend on the thermo you have fitted some run a little cooler some a little hotter so 85-95 I'd say.

I hope you have the long route home planned? Weather Saturday looks to be on your side (well at least it is up here in the north)

Enjoy!

For me:

13" - pressures are 23 psi all round.

Coolant temp when driving is around 95C - fan should cut in at 100C

Oil pressure is rev dependent - idle is around 2.5 bar, goes up 4 bar with higher revs.

Enjoy your drive!!

Don’t leave the keys in your pocket and do the belts up….

It’s a rite of passage and something I still do 11 years into ownership!

Same goes for not switching on the battery master switch. 🤦‍♂️

Ah, keys in the pocket 🙂

When I had a hired Caterham last year, I did manage to leave the removable steering wheel just out of reach in the middle of town, with a collection of grinning onlookers.
