I think you will find that Caterham go with who ever their latest sponsor is, hence their being alternative guidance in the service books. We use the 10W60 as a preference.

The recommended supplier clearly changes. But would that also apply to recommended grade?

I would have thought so. Assuming the same quality/longevity, one is a lot more viscous than the other so quite a difference in theory.
