Peter Mears
My 420 dry sump bolt has been cross threaded at some time and after a tap and a bit of a bodge last year to get me through it’s time to sort properly. My question is what is the standard bolt size, I know it’s M10 but I need to correct pitch so I can helicoil this properly. It’s possibly 1.0 or 1.25, Thanks Pete
Dan R
I asked a similar question here,.......... https://www.caterhamlotus7.club/forums/topic/269297-dry-sump-oil-tank-drain-plug/#comment-2560517
Dan R
My solution was not to risk damaging what appears to be a very soft aluminium tank (I have the triangular type), so i have left the bolt in situ, marked it and now use a vacuum pump to extract the oil from the tank
Peter Mears
That will be my solution from now on.
Dan R
I can recommend the Sealey TP69 oil vacuum, More than powerful enough to do the job and is large enough to extract it all in one sitting.
Peter Mears
Hopefully someone has a definitive answer regarding the correct size. Caterham suggested 1.25 but don’t list a replacement bolt in line.
Peter Mears
Just for reference and thanks to Chris at Redline. The bolt size for a modern triangular dry sump tank ( and my car is 2018 ) is M10 x 1.25 So be careful with these as said earlier 🙏
Dan R
From memory (As ive not looked recently) I am pretty sure that mine is smaller than this. I also remember that the bolt is not threaded the whole way. This may be peculiar to mine or may even have been a repair/replacement before i got the car (2012 model) but it had very very few miles when i bought it so that may be unlikely. Yet another anomaly i guess!!!
