A 'rabbit hole' issue of national HVDC transmission cropped up (after you showed us the DC to DC converter). I looked this on the web - I'd not come across it before. AC national transmission does indeed have some disadvantages… Skin effect (not so with DC) Capacitive and Inductive losses over long distances. Requires synchronization across connections.
