TC
Has anyone got a good solution to remove fine scratches from side screens please?
Member Jonathan Kay Posted November 11, 2023 Member Share Posted November 11, 2023 (edited) Traditional mild abrasives were toothpaste and liquid Brasso. But the last few times this came up there was considerable support for other proprietary products, of which the most popular was one from Renovo. https://www.caterhamlotus7.club/forums/topic/253503-side-screens-scratched-and-foggy/ https://www.caterhamlotus7.club/forums/topic/255580-crystal-clear-side-screens-again/ https://www.caterhamlotus7.club/forums/topic/1708-side-screen-polishing/ Full search of the archives. TC
Thank you Jonathan and SLR. I shall now read the previous threads and then try and sort. Best wishes Tony C.
Ralph45
I have just ordered some Renovo as my near side screen with the low sun this time of year is far to cloudy for my liking. I shall report back on my findings after a good polish up.
SM25T
If you can feel scratches with a fingernail, you can't polish them out. Cloudiness can be improved with warm air and products like Renovo.
Ralph45
That’s interesting regarding the warm air, how does that work and how do I apply the warm air, hairdryer?

Hair dryer or electric hot air gun, but gently and not too hot !
Ralph45
Reporting back regarding the effectiveness of Renovo. To be honest I didn’t use the warm air trick, I simply followed the instructions provided on the bottle of Renovo which was wash the surface with warm water, dry, then use small amounts of Renovo in small circles, allow to dry then polish it off. After doing each screen on both sides twice I can honestly say the cloudiness has gone, that’s as far as I can tell but it doesn’t seem to remove deeper scratches with the first few goes although that’s not to say that with more perseverance it wouldn’t produce more fruitful results? Hope this helps to throw a little light on the subject 😃
StevehS3
When washing the car I spray the side screens with a waterless wash detailer to help with grime slide off then wash them first before risk of grit on the wash mitt. It seems to have kept the scratch-free.
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted November 17, 2023 Leadership Team Share Posted November 17, 2023 If during the polishing the side screen vinyl becomes a little stretched, carefully heating with a hair dryer will return them to being flat.
