7_Malc
My top dashboard bulb holder and green lens between the two dials has disintegrated (brittle plastic, UV degradation etc) and I am searching for a replacement. The Caterham is a 1999 Roadsport / Supersport (1800 K-series) but I believe that most cars from this era had a similar dash layout and lights. If you have switched to a Stack digital display and still have the previous lamp holders available (x1 or x3) please let me know. I have investigated the modern LED alternatives and not found anything that is a good enough match, so I am hoping for an original replacement. Pictured are the original 3 lamps, as they were. Top one needs a new lens (green) and bulb holder. cheers, Malc
Jonathan Kay
I don't know the source. Have you asked Redline and Rimmer Bros and Holdens? Jonathan Edited November 6, 2023 by Jonathan Kay
John Vine
I can't help with a source, I'm afraid, but my old 1999 1.8K Supersport had a clear top lens. It was the change-up light: JV
7_Malc
Thanks John - yes clear (with a faint tint of green perhaps) is the one I need. The OEM source remains a mystery (Redline included) so if any one can shed some light….
JP
Is it the shift light bulb holder / bezel? If so, same happened to me. Got mine from Redline (part number 179038) 88p +VAT.
Terry Field
Not sure I fully understand what has broken or deteriorated but for what it is worth one of my bulb holders had been broken so I fashioned a new one out of an old tin can (baked beans methinks)! Area Representative Paul Richards Posted November 6, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted November 6, 2023 Car builder solutions have them HERE however they have a chrome bezel. Might be worth a call to see if they have them with black bezel.

7_Malc
Yes JP - that is rather similar to how mine looks currently. Did you solve it? Edited November 7, 2023 by 7_Malc
JP
Yes - with a new holder from Redline - see above Or: https://caterhamparts.co.uk/gauges/984-housing-clip-gearchange-light-bezel.html Edited November 7, 2023 by JP
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted November 7, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted November 7, 2023 Malc7. My link above is to a normal warning light. The top light on a car of your era is normally a shift light and is a much brighter bulbous light held in place by a plastic holder as per JP.
7_Malc
Many thanks everyone for the response… I have ordered a new bulb holder from Caterham Parts… however sadly the lens is no longer available. Hopefully it will retain the shift light in place better than none at all…

What's the Caterham part number, please? We might be able to find the source, and the coloured lenses were usually swappable. 7_Malc
Hi Jonathan, The bulb holder is part "Reference: 179038" from the Caterham site, but that does not include the lens or the black bezel to hold the lens in front of the dashboard, unless more bits arrive than are pictured… https://caterhamparts.co.uk/gauges/984-housing-clip-gearchange-light-bezel.html
Jonathan Kay
Thanks. I think that I now understand about the clip! Can anyone add some photos of the lampholder? Jonathan
JP
That plastic part just pushes in to the dashboard from the front. I don't have a pic of it before I fitted it unfortunately, but the item in the pic on the parts site is what arrives. You need to disconnect the bulb, pull the old plastic off, feed the wires through and then reinsert the bulb. The new one was a smidge wider than the original so some very gentle filing of the hole was required. I have a better pic of the broken one, which light shed some light...
7_Malc
Here’s the replacement bulb holder. It has a slight lip on the front, but not the bezel and lens like the original. Will try a first fit and share…
rj
Would this work? You may need to remove the symbol https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/small-black-bezel-warning-light-indicator-green
7_Malc
So I can report that the Caterham part (bulb holder) does work. It its a tight push-fit on the shifrt-light, and seems to slot in the dashboard well. Not driven with it yet, so I have no idea if it will cope with the vibrations etc. Photo to follow when I am able to get in the garage in daylight.
Wrightpayne
The supersport shift light is simply a large LED on a bit of cable with one econoseal pin fitted. I’ve actually taken mine off as I have DRE shift lights fitted. Its not for sale but if anyone wants some pictures then let me know.
7_Malc
Sunshine - and a decent photo of the new bulb holder in place.
