New speedo has reset odometer to zero

I’ve fitted a new speedo to my 2023 170R after the metal surround on the one fitted when the car arrived had already started going rusty after six months.

The new one was supplied by caterham under warranty but I fitted it myself.

I have changed the pulse code so it matches the tyre size.

However the odometer is showing zero miles (not the 3,000 I’ve already put on it).  And it is the odometer not the trip.

Has anyone had a similar problem when replacing the speedo and do you know how to set the mileage back to what it should be?

To close the loop on this, I’ve spoken to the service team at Williams and they’ve explained how to do it:

1. Press and hold the speedo button.

2. Turn on ignition and release button when ‘setup’ shows on odometer.

3. Press button again and ‘setodo’ will show.

4. Press and hold button until ‘000000’ shows then release.

5. Each digit will flash in turn starting with leftmost.

6. Press the button as each digit flashes to increase it by 1; do this multiple times to set the right number (remember to leave any preceding 0s).

7. When the digit is set, stop pressing the button and after a moment the next digit will flash, then repeat step 6.

8. Once all digits are set, all digits will flash; press the button once and ‘done’ will show.

9. The odometer is now set.

For anyone of you unscrupulous bunch thinking this would be a good way to alter your mileage, apparently this can only be done once, which means you can’t change it after it has been set (sorry to disappoint!).

Ditto JK, I have a new speedo for my CSR, not fitted yet but I appreciate the problem with incorrect mileage and will follow that procedure when I fit it.  I had to fit a new speedo to my first 2008 CSR, under warranty but CC advised that there was no way of increasing the odometer reading to match the reading on the faulty speedo.  When I traded it in with CC they advertised it with the mileage on the new speedo, despite the fact that I had told them to make it known to any prospective buyer that the true mileage was plus another 7k miles.  I emailed CC numerous times but they refused to change the mileage on the website.  It was only when I contacted Ansar direct that CC changed the advert to show the correct mileage.

Very interesting!  Thanks for posting.  The procedure sounds a bit like the one for (re)setting the pulse code. 

Out of interest, did Williams explain what to do if you make a mistake while setting the digits -- that is, in Step 8 but prior to pressing the button?  Can you simply switch off and start again?

They didn’t.  However they did say to press and hold to set, which I did the first time but it just reverted to all 000000s.  I tried pressing once and that set it.

So I think in answer to your question, if you do get it wrong, as long as you don’t press set, it will reset.  From my own experience of setting the pulse code (you’re correct, it’s a very similar process), then switching off the ignition will just reset anything you done up to the point of saving.
