Glynh
My BMW diff whines on overrun and also chatters a bit at times, I'm new to Caterhams so don't yet know what is normal. The car is a one year old 360S, I'm not expecting that it has an LSD but would like to check as the car was initially built for promotion work by Caterham and has a ton of extras fitted. Is there an identifier on the casing that will tell me which diff I have?
ScottR400D
The whining and chatter happen regardless of the LS. There's a label on the diff which if still there might indicate LSD or not. Zoom in on attached. Good luck in getting to it!

Jonathan Kay
Thanks for the photos. It would be great to get this documented for current and recent Sevens. How do the different diffs behave in the three tests other than checking the label and the documentation?• Jacking up the rear end and turning a wheel?• Looking at the driveshaft fitting?• Laying down rubber?ThanksJonathan
Drakman
My 2014 BMW Titan diff has LSD painted on the base of the diff housing and the ratio. If you have a titan, spinning the wheel may not be of any use, my titan i could spin the wheel with the other side on the ground because the diff LSD was cactus. Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted September 25, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted September 25, 2023 Usually engraved with type & ratio on bottom of casing. Well mine is.......
ScottR400D
Drakman is right. I just looked at the one in my earlier image, which is a:spare, and it's got '3.64 LSD' in white marker pen on the underside.
Glynh
I can't see if there's a label on top without major surgery but the ratio is painted on the underside without any LSD reference also the rear wheels turn independently so I'm assuming it's not a LSD. Thanks for all the help.
ScottR400D
Yes, open diff. Lucky you!!
Dave Hardcastle
A far easier way would be to write to the Martin.Phipps@caterham.com, Caterham Archivist and a club member also, and ask him for the details of your car. As it was a Caterham promotional build he may not be able to help, but you don't know until you ask.
