Pawson6844
Hi Is this too aggressive on rubber seals? lots of people rate this highly but my mechanic has warned against it due to corroding any seals. anyone any experience of this or will it be ok?Do approx 8 track days a year so likely get changed once a year. Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted September 21, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted September 21, 2023 I do not know about the fluid being aggressive on seals but SRF must be a bit OTT for a half ton car with good brakes ? Surely DOT 4+ would be sufficient for a Seven on track if you want a high temperature fluid ?
ECR
I used SRF and have done for many years. No problems with seals.....
Nigel Blandin
Likewise, I have used it in my Seven for over 20 years, (Change every 2) no problems at all.
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted September 21, 2023 Leadership Team Share Posted September 21, 2023 My car had Castrol SRF when I bought it and it certainly enables a very firm pedal, more so than any other fluid I've used.I believe it's more hydroscopic than other fluids though so should be replaced more frequently, I heard comment of every 6 - 12 months but that might be inaccurate. aerobod - near CYYC
Castrol recommends change every 18 months for SRF, but it is less hygroscopic than other performance fluids such as Motul RBF 600 or RBF 660 in particular. I normally use RBF 600 and change every spring before the first track day (many track organisers here that require a tech checklist to be completed specify fluid no older than 6 months). Gridgway
I had a feeling that once you had put SRF in then you needed to keep to it and not go back to plain Dot 4. Doesn;t sound right as I'm saying it though
Pawson6844
Thanks for the replies. I'm going to give this a go. Hopefully stop the spongy pedal after half a dozen laps. Thanks
Englishmaninwales
#8 That is what SRF did for my car!
Andy Tims
If you do track days (and why wouldn't you?) then why would you not use the best fluid?
Roger Ford
SRF is overkill in a Caterham. I've raced for many years using Castrol React, and never had an issue with fluid boiling.
KnifeySpoony
I think React IS SRF...
Roger Ford
They've renamed them making it a bit confusing. The old React (or maybe it was 'Response') is now "React Performance" and the old SRF is "React SRF". It's the performance one that I use which is about a quarter of the price of SRF.
