Glynh
I have always left my "hobby" cars on a Ctek battery conditioner when garaged and I run a connection into the cockpit with a Ctek socket on it. However, I now have a 360S and I noted that the Caterham manual stipulates that the battery must be removed from the car when being charged in order to avoid damaging sensitive electronics? Is this really necessary, I have never had such a problem with any other car when conditioning the battery? Hampshire West AR
GlynhNot heard of that before. I use both an Optimate on my R500D and a Ctek on my Porsche with no issues. The Ctek seems very advanced in its charging regime and I doubt it would upset a 360S electronics. Ctek conditioners are used on all sorts of exotic cars and I have not heard of them causing issues?Nick
MattB
Do you have a battery isolator switch fitted?MattB
Jonathan Kay
What Nick says. (Except that I don't have a Porsche!)Using a big dumb charger is potentially different.Jonathan

john milner
I think most manuals state disconnect the battery before charging. Probably not much point but it would give them some protection against being sued by a numpty if something caused something to go bang or melt.I use mine via an isolator switch as I am a numpty. I wouldn't leave it charging permanently but just for a few hours if the car hasn't been driven for a couple of weeks.
Beagler
As Jonathan has inferred, I think it applies to non intelligent battery chargers. Have used Ctek on my BMW X1 and similar on my 310s and no probs.
Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted September 2, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted September 2, 2023 Just disconnect the negative lead before connecting charger. No issues then but don't forget to reconnect before driving !
ScottR400D
No need to disconnect anything if you're using any sort of smart charger. How many years have we all been using these things? Who's had a problem? I'm also struggling to think of any 'sensitive electronics' a 7 might have that the average modern car wouldn't?
revilla
I use a CTEK 0.5 XS ... The little one.I must say, at some phases in its cycle if I'm workingon the car and it's plugged in I can get quite a buzzing tingling sensation off it! Not painful, more uncomfortable, but definitely a few volts in the pulses it sends out.
