Carole
Following the replacement of our windscreen, we have been unable to find a way of securing the rear view mirror to the screen. Just when we think we have been successful, it droops and falls into the car. Has anyone any suggestions as to how this can be fixed, please? Jonathan Kay
You're not alone. There are recommendations for mirrors, suction cups, glues and adhesive pads in the archives:https://duckduckgo.com/?q=site:caterhamlotus7.club+rear+mirror https://www.caterhamlotus7.club/forum/techtalk/recommend-me-suction-rear-view-mirror https://duckduckgo.com/?q=site:caterhamlotus7.club+rear+mirror+adhesiveCleaning the surface is obviously sensible, but I have no idea why some owners have problems and others don't.Jonathan
Leadership Team Shortshift Posted July 10, 2023 Leadership Team Share Posted July 10, 2023 CaroleI'd recommend that you get a genuine Ford (OE) Ka mirror sticky-pad, that you clean the screen with IPA or similar and then warm it up (hairdryer) in the area of placement prior to pressing the mount to the screen. Press and hold for 30 seconds. Voila!James
SM25T
Green side to the glass.
SM25T
Normal double sided tape won't work. Has to be proper glass fixing tape which is very thin.
ptr_drvr
I gave up on mine and have replaced it with a cage mounted wind angle mirror.
revilla
Same here as what Shortshift said. If you ever want to get it off again you'll need to cut it off, it won't fall off. Just one thing to add, when Shortshift says "press and hold", don't press too hard or you'll be needing a new screen to go with it. And don't ask me me how I know ... Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted July 10, 2023 Leadership Team Share Posted July 10, 2023 #3 ... any particular brand of IPA, low alcohol etc? Sorry James! In all seriousness, if the sticky pad method fails pick up a "Loctite 319 rear view mirror bonder" kit, never fails and useful to carry in the boot just in case.Stu. Wrightpayne
If its a new screen it probably has remnants of rubber lube on it from assembly.
Caterham Track Days
I had the same problem, going through many sticky pads then tried this from Halfords in the Spring and its not budged - https://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints-and-body-repair/adhesives/loctite-rear-view-mirror-adhesive-kit-464404.html
Martin_mad
Hi,we had same problem. Halfords do a rear view mirror adhesive kit, Loctite 319, or a suction mounted rear view mirror. We've used both and can recommend either. If using the Loctite option just follow instructions. Good luckMartin.
TC
Soudal Fixall Crystal from Toolstation or elsewhere, and you will have loads left over for all sorts of fixing or sealing jobs.
TC
Should have said that you will need to tape or clip the mirror in position for a couple of hours when using the Fixall, but then a really good fixing.

andy couchman
I've just discovered 'black tack' which is a stronger version of blue tack but still reusable. Plenty on eBay - and go for the premium version, which is stickier./ Worth a try?
