7 Minder
I'm in the Novice group at the Club's Castle Combe track day tomorrow. Car is a 420R spec SV. I appreciate it's a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question but can anyone suggest how much fuel I'll probably need for the track sessions? Thanks. Member Jonathan Kay Posted May 8, 2023 Member Share Posted May 8, 2023 I'd plan to start nearly full and refuel at lunchtime.Jonathan (1800 K)PS: Have you worked through one of the checklists for novices?
GulfSeven
What Jonathan said - I have a 310R and generally drive an hour to the circuit and an hour home and only have to fill up at lunchtime. Having said that, I think the 420R uses a bit more fuel. Either way, the petrol station is 10 minutes away so easily doable in the 40 minutes between sessions. NoisyBDR
Start full, if anything by lunch you will be going quicker with less weight.

aerobod - near CYYC
I find that with careful packing I can fit a 20L and 10L fuel can and aluminium jack in the passenger footwell of my R400D, with a tote box on the passenger seat containing a few tools, helmet and other bits and pieces such as spare oil, paper towel, etc. I also have a tyre pump and soft bag with food, water and spare clothing in the boot to round out the needs for a full track day. With a full tank and 30L of spare fuel I can do 250km (160miles) of laps with enough left to get to and from fuel stations not too far from the tracks I go to. DougBaker
There will be fuel onsite, I would not worry about fueling the car. I find it more important to remember to take a big bottle of water to keep myself hydrated during trackdays.Have fun
DanRo
There is no fuel available on-site at Castle Combe, unless it's been introduced since I last was last there. As Gulfseven says, it's only 10 min away though. Hope you enjoyed the day!
7 Minder
Thanks all, great day and the car performed faultlessly, wish I could say the same about the driver!Did about 110 track miles plus another 55 getting to/from the track and lunchtime refuelling. Used about 40 litres so around 18 mpg overall. Excellent organisation and briefings and it felt a very safe environment for a novice. Would highly recommend.
