'When discussing the lack of a rev-limiter in 5th on the new Porsche GT3, Ian Kuah records that 'Porsche worked out that you actually lose speed if you keep going beyond 8000rpm in fifth gear'. Assuming that there's no wheelspin or clutch slip (both of which would seem to be rather unlikely and very bad news at those sorts of speeds) what happens to the extra revs then? Do the rev pixies in the tranmission steal them away before they get to the rear wheels? '

'that you actually lose speed if you keep going beyond 8000rpm in fifth gear'

'The car doesn't have the power to maintain its speed above 8000 in 5th'

Both are 14 words.

My effort is slightly shorter in terms of the space it takes up.

My effort is correct.

I make that 2-0 to me....

I rather like the idea of transmission pixies as long as they are friendly.

What was the name of those little folk who live in the shadows in a garage and make any dropped yet vital small component vanish until just after a replacement has been ordered ?
