Area Representative Bizzielizzie13 Posted April 21, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted April 21, 2023 After several years with a Starcom intercom SWMO has decided that there is too much 'noise', this comes & goes with alternator load, lights on/off etc. So my question is, does anyone have any advice experience of what 'noise filter' for the power supply would be worth getting? Area Representative Bizzielizzie13 Posted April 21, 2023 Author Area Representative Share Posted April 21, 2023 JonathanThe power is taken directly from the battery & runs down the tunnel to the boot where the Starcom is mounted, the earth is in the boot too. raw
You do need a filter on the power supply to cancel out the majority of the electrical noise. I use a Starcom supplied unit on my Duratec but having fitted a new digital PMR this winter (which is separately powered and switched from the intercom) I now need to fit a second filter purely for the PMR. I'm hoping I have another Starcom unit in the garage, if not, I'll have to investigate further.Added - just found this via Google, haven't tried it but looks like it'll do the job:https://www.rallynuts.com/intercom-accessories/zero-noise-12v-power-filter.html Andrew
Area Representative Bizzielizzie13 Posted April 24, 2023 Author Area Representative Share Posted April 24, 2023 Thanks Andrew, I had seen this too, Starcom went out of business in Jan 2022 so I understand. Looks like the Zero Noise filter it is! One on order now & will report. David
