Cycle wing repeater cable….

Hi all,

The cable to one of the front cycle wing repeaters has broken on my car and need's replacing. The existing cable is black after it exists the stay but I've noted the cable for replacement units seems to be green. So, my question is are the original fitment cables sheathed with heat shrink or are the factory fitted cables black from the outset?

I plan to solder in a new length as a replacement but it just seem odd for the exposed wire to be supplied in green. I assume cable is just standard automotive stuff.

I typed all below then realised you're asking about a repair, I left it in case it's of use. If you're just reconnecting a wire, the colour doesn't matter. I don't recall the wires having heat shrink, just black. Yes, just usual automotive wire, no great load from a repeater.

I wouldn't worry about the wire colour. One of the wires is the live feed and the other goes to earth. The latter is usually fixed to the stay near the light, and the cause of most issues. However, you have a broken wire which is obviously the issue.

The wire coming from within the stay is usually the live, with the earth wire from the repeater being fixed TO the stay (earth).

you'll have 1 wire going to the indicator then the earth going to a screw in the wing. 99% of problems are with the earth. if you have a multimeter you can check the earth and the voltage on the repeater.  it might be time to switch to LEDs and an LED relay as mine were rusty and cracked.

It's definitely the live that's failed. I'll use a new length of black cable to replace.
