Iamscotticus
Haynes manuals for Ital & Marina state to use an axle casing spreader / stretcher for the removal of the diff. This should apply to TR7-4, Spitfire, GT6 & Dolly. BLMC part # 18G131C.Has anyone found this tool to be necessary for a diff swap? Thanks.
Nigel B
I took the diff out of my 2002 Ital axle car a few times & I found once the driveshafts were out & the diff bolts undone, after a bit of a wiggle to detach the sealant, you could pull it out easily enough. Iamscotticus
@Nigel, that is removal of the diff case. I refer to the gear carrier that is held by two bearing caps and four bolts for the purpose of swapping in a Quaife ATB.Interesting Cat was still using these in 2002. Member Jonathan Kay Posted February 27, 2023 Member Share Posted February 27, 2023 "I cant attach pictures here like I can on all my other forms."There are three methods: two for uploading and one for outlinking to photos on another server. They're all described in the Forum User Guide. If you'd like to practise please let me know and we can have a play in the Test area.Jonathan
rkeywood
I borrowed a spreader donkey's years ago to do the same job. Graham Sykes axle guide says one is needed so didn't attempt without. You need to be careful not to overstretch - the one I borrowed had the max number of flats to turn stamped on it.
