Gridgway
I am looking for a replacement. It's this on the Caterham Parts website and they don't have it. Chris at Redline is looking. Other than that, does anyone know if it's a Caterham specific part or came from a specific car? I've looked at the Burton website and can't see one the same. The hardware at the throttle pedal end is all captive as it were, so it's not easy to use a more generic one. Besides I'd rather replace with an original.CheersGRaham

OldAndrewE
Do you have an old one as a template Graham? I think Speedy Cables will make one for you
rkeywood
IIRC the original is something like a Spitfire cable fitted the reverse way around. The last Caterham supplied cable I saw just looked like a standard 2ft universal cable with adjuster. The mounting block for the adjuster isn't spitfire so might be something else or a Caterham add on. If you want to make your own you should be able to get a cable or components from Car Builder and the like. The ends can be soldered on if you need to. I have a spare adjuster and mounting block if you need them. If you have a Weber underslung linkage then the Caterham cable needs cutting back and new carb end fitted in any case. Gridgway
Thanks all, problem solved, Chris at Redline had one after all (fantastic service there). The Speedy Cables idea was one I was going to pursue, but don't need to.
Wrightpayne
Are you going to look at making up an emergency spare? I carry a bicycle inner and moped solderless cable nipple for my K series car.
Gridgway
Good question! I'll keep the old one as a spare. It's not completely dead, just not as good as i wanted. I'll also run some oil down inside it and it should improve it.
rkeywood
That's good news.If supply becomes a problem in the future then they can be made from Venhill kits like this with just one end needing soldering
Gridgway
Interesting whether they do one for an imperial adjuster block? Or you'd need to fabricate something. Maybe an M6 helicoil might work.
rkeywood
Venhill do various imperial adjusters but I can't see a 1/4 UNF - it may be worth a call. They do a mounting (trinion) for the 6mm adjuster so you can swap that to metric as well.
7 wonders of the world
MTB brake cable (stainless) and a couple of 5amp choc block conectors which you can use as solderless nipples or for wiring..
Gridgway
Thanks for all the ideas, I do have a new and a spare now, so I am sorted. Mind you there'll be no choc blocs in the vicinity of my 7! I did once use the cut down earth pin of a mains plug for and extra cable stop in a previous 7. Just the square bit at the top with the hole and screw!
7 wonders of the world
I just carry a couple of choc blocks in the tool roll for emergencies..... used them on other members cars but never mine
Gridgway
And of course, despite my scoffing, it's a very good idea!
