ChrisChurch
My speedo started reading low closely followed by not working at all. I've not had the car long but have familiarized myself with how it works through these pages, thanks all!The cable in the speedo looks secure, can someone please advise if the gearbox end looks ok? It's a little insecure but I think that's quite normal. In not exactly sure how it's supposed to look. Thanks so much.
John Vine
It looks ok to me. I take it the circlip holding the brass top-hat (ed: not tin!) in place is fully located in its groove, and that the knurled connector is tight? The most common cause of failure is a broken quill. You can inspect it by undoing the knurled bit and removing the angle drive. You can also check the speedo cable inner by disconnecting the cable from the angle drive and spinning the inner with an electric drill.Btw, it also looks as though you have a small oil leak from the speedo drive seal.JV
ChrisChurch
Thank you John, I'm going to check all those things you have suggested.I did wonder about the oil leak, is there a rubber seal anywhere or is it just the bits I can see, brass top hat, circlip, angled drive etc?
