Aerial_stu
Hi, I can't find any recent posts about which brake pads would be best for fast road or track use. I read the Ferodo pads had a "not for road use" disclaimer.any recommendations please?2016 310S SV
7 wonders of the world
Many brake pads carry this disclaimer as they do not meet the R90 regulation with governs areas such as bedding in periods, noise, dust and how much the pads deviate from the OE pads in terms of hot and cold performance - in order that replacements do not adversely upset the balance and braking characteristics of the car. What pads are you currently running....?Have you tracked the car if so any issues with them...? Aerial_stu
Hi, I've not tracked yet. I can see AP Racing 225 on the back. Don't know about the front, I need to get a wire tool so I can refit the fronts.wear doesn't look too bad, but the rears are quite rusty.Any recommended options welcomed, I'll remove the old ones to check over soon. krisfl
Hi @Aerial_stu. I have a Premier Power modded 2016 270 which uses the standard AP calipers front and rear on the standard discs. On road and my track days last year I ran standard caterham rears ( AP I think?) with Mintex 1144's on the front. These were recommended to me by a seven specialist to cure my squealing issues - which they did. They gave noticeably better bite and power vs the standard pads. In terms of track use, I was at Castle Coombe with the club on the hottest day of the year last summer - 41'c Air temp and lord knows what track surface temp! I lapped all day in 20min stints without problems. No fade. SO I"d say for your 310 well worth a look.I would add I'm a bit of a track novice, so perhaps I wasn't lapping as hard/fast as more skilled people might... But that said I'd buy them again... And compared to the pads for the big brembo's on my old car they're cheap as chips!Hope that helps.
StevehS3
My standard 310R had what seemed to have good front/rear balance little bite. I changed the fronts to 1144s and there was a very noticeable improvement in braking force but it seemed hugely over braked on the front. I then swapped the rears to Caterham Uprated pads (which turned out to be LP507 which can be bought elsewhere for £17!) and it didn't improve. I finally fitted 1144s in the rear and I think that is as good as it can be on my car. The fronts lock up first and ther is good braking power. The car's general setup might give a different experience. PS If you keep the CC AP fronts I would keep an eye on them for deterioration. These were mine when I bought the car after only 4000 miles and hardly any wear.
krisfl
Certainly very different experience to mine. My car did have a full flat floor set up/ corner weighting etc at a similar time. Seven's are very sensitive to set up as we all know... Perhaps as you say, set up is the difference?
StevehS3
Sorry I made a typo (now corrected). Whenever pads are discussed there seems to be different opinions. Perhaps it is setup or wheels/tyres or driver preference...Mine has the later alloy front calipers.
