John Vine
This is from my 2018 Mondeo Mk5 2L diesel estate. There's no mention in the handbook, or anywhere on the web as far as I can see.I've just replaced the battery, which entailed removing the air-box to gain access. The unknown box came out with the air-box as a connected unit.JV
Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted December 14, 2022 Area Representative Share Posted December 14, 2022 Is it a primary intake manifold as it appears to be connected to the air box/filter assembly & has a small by pass pipe to the main trunking? Benton
looks like a "jazzed up version " of the air box. My earlier Galaxy only has one single air box.
aerobod - near CYYC
That looks to be a resonator chamber to reduce the air intake noise emanating from the head back through the air filter.
John Vine
Thanks, folks.#4: That's an interesting thought, James. When I first ran the car after changing the battery, I could detect a quiet "rushing air" sound (a bit like a mild turbo boost) on gentle acceleration. It certainly wasn't there before so I'm wondering if I've upset or misaligned something.I detached the two hoses at these points, and removed both boxes together as a unit:I'll have a look tomorrow.JV
John Vine
An update (only really of interest to owners of later Ford 2L diesels ).....There's a rubber bellows seal here between the extra (resonator?) box and the air intake. It's only a contact joint, but I suspect I'd introduced a slight leak there on reassembly. A small adjustment via the mounting screws seemed to fix it.JV
