GulfSeven
Adrian Flux uses a range of underwriters. My policy uses Trinity Lane. A-Plan said they were unable to offer me a different underwriter.
Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted February 25, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted February 25, 2023 I am really happy with Dave Spragg/MSM.I'm sorry to hear that others have problems from other agents.
StevehS3
Which underwriter do MSM use? Do they cover track days?
BenF
For my 7, the underwriter with MSM is Ageas.MSM do not cover track days as standard and it gets quite expensive to cover them individually with them. That is the one downside of them. Years ago, I switched from MSM to REIS because of the track day cover, but with my current 7 am back with MSM, seeing as I'm not planning many track days. TomB
I’ve been with MSM for 20 years! It not always the cheapest, but usually close enough to avoid the 1001 questions and hassle of moving. Plus being on first name terms with your insurer has to have some value!
7 wonders of the world
My underwriter from MSM is KGM who were superb, Dave clearly has an excellent relationship with them.Dave & Janet - Real humans who know their business and clients very wellI've never understod why people buy insurance on price alone, your buying a service for if things go tits up, it pays to check rather than assume what your getting...or not.. Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted February 25, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted February 25, 2023 And MSM pick up the phone personally! No automated switchboard (playing the "we are experiencing unusually high number of calls" lie), no endless music on hold... (Need I go on?)Would your insurance agent call you on Sunday afternoon after you have reported an accident that moring? Dave did this for me. Area Representative bluenose Posted February 25, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted February 25, 2023 Would be nice if we could find an broker that has an underwriter that knows Caterham and Lotus 7s and insures for multiple track days, all at an affordable price. Wonder if the Club can help facilitate this? Nick
Blackmamba
I've been using ClassicLine for a number of cars over the years and also for my 7. Great service from knowledgeable people, usually close to the best price, cover for 5 trackdays included, agreed value etc. importantly, the one time I had to claim their service was faultless.I phone around to ensure they are in line but always use them.https://www.classiclineinsurance.co.uk/
Roadsport06
Good morning Blackmamba,Who is your underwriter for that policy? When you made your claim did you insist on it going to a specialist? - This seems to be an issue for some underwriters. 7 wonders of the world
MSM asked who was my chosen repairer.... I answered me and Arch, no problem all parts were ordered fromm Caterham, I was allowed to strip the car immediately to get the estimate to them the assessor came out and his eyes nearly fell out being greeted by a car laid out in kit for, good parts, damaged parts and bare chassis - he loved it, went through my estimate, part payment was made within 6 days so I could order parts and Arch were paid direct, other costs were paid rapidly too. Dan R
#30 - MSM with Ageis underwriting were by far the cheapest for me this year, even though other brokers who were also using Ageis were more expensive.
StevehS3
ClassicLine state ATDO but I expect that could be easily sorted. Club discount too.
GulfSeven
The ATDO requirement for track day cover is the main issue I think it would be useful to see if the club could help with. Several of us have discussed this with different brokers but the wording isn't getting changed. Similarly, not covering a Caterham windscreen under the windscreen cover (see another post earlier in this thread) is ridiculous. These companies advertise on the club website and in Lowflying as Caterham specialists, and we pay them £££s each every year, but some of the policies they sell us aren't fit for purpose. John Vine
#41: ...not covering a Caterham windscreen under the windscreen cover (see another post earlier in this thread) is ridiculous.I agree. For the record, when I cracked my windscreen in Sep 2018, Footman James (underwriter Ageas) asked me to call National WIndscreens. NW offered me replacement glass or a complete windscreen. As the glass was not an official CC part, I opted for the full windscreen. NW ordered direct from CC and delivered to me. When I said I'd prefer to fit it myself, they were entirely happy for me to do the job, but pointed out that the £75 excess would still apply. All as smooth as anyone could wish for.JV
Blackmamba
@ Roadsport06 My ClassicLine policy is with ERS (Equity Red Star). We did have a discussion about potentially repairing the car and it would have gone to Arch. We agreed to write it off in the end and I was paid full value, no quibbles.Their trackday cover says ADTO but I called them last year and they covered a club trackday at Anglesey for me. I did a private trackday at Castle Coombe (who are not ADTO registered) and they wouldn't cover that.
Area Representative bluenose Posted February 26, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted February 26, 2023 ATDO are no longer an entity, and APlan have assured me they can cover me on a track day at Goodwood on the 1st May organised by a new track day provider. I did not get the impression that a wording change was needed to still have cover although for piece of mind having the correct wording seems like a good idea in case the underwriter decides to turn tail.As I understand it the ATDO was set up in the days when you could hire a circuit with no marshalls, medical cover, etc however I understand much of that is included by the circuit owners in their hire cost nowadays. StevehS3
Ok so here is my question to A-Plan and their reply. I am not concerned about that particular point, although I shouldn't have had to ask the question and they should correct the policy terms. Roadsport06
Good afternoon all. A number of weeks on from my repair and Markerstudy are still to cough up my excess. A-plan called to ask about renewal, I said no to Markerstudy as an underwriter and the salesperson had to listen to my story of my experience. They have come back with KGM as an underwriter - I'll do my research on that, but early indications don't look good. I was told by the salesperson that KGM were on the same level as Markerstudy to which I replied that didn't sound positive. Is there a single location here for insurers to call around rather than spread over lots of threads? - I think the answer for peace of mind will be MSM
Dan R
#46 - I have just moved to MSM underwitten by Ageis after A Plan tried to move my policy to Markerstudy. My APlan policy was originally underwritten by Ageis but on renewal the price went up significantly and Markerstudy were suggested as they were cheaper than last years premium. I politely declined, called MSM and got an Ageis policy cheaper than any of the quotes from APlan
Billy.Whizz
My best quote by a long way was with footman James and they are underwritten by Ageis. So I went with them.
BenF
I'm a very happy customer with MSM (underwriter Ageas), only thing to bear in mind is that track day cover is not included and works out pretty expensive if you want to organise it as an add on. I forget the exact numbers but it was not economical. So that's really the only downside of going with MSM. If you want reliable on-road cover AND track day cover, I don't know if there is a good option out there.
Wrightpayne
Thanks for sharing your experiences - I have two vehicles with A plan so will be looking elsewhere at renewal. The seven is with REIS.
