graearea
Late on my Anglesey trackday I started feeling smashed to pieces by the left hand bolster on my seat from the fast RHD 110mph curve. It's basically just a metal bar now. Anyone know if I can get it re-padded or if I can simply swap it for the passenger seat or if I just need to stop being a wuss and get a Tillet.cheers! K7 VCT
Sure you can get a new foam kit from Oxted
Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted August 20, 2022 Area Representative Share Posted August 20, 2022 I'd start by swapping driver & passenger seats. Then, as above, Oxted offer a kit for refurbishment. But, in all honesty, if track days are your thing, then a Tillet would be my recommendation as they hold you in place. S type seats don't hold you laterally and unless you are a tight fit widthwise, you will slide side to side on leather.
Leadership Team Mcalvert Posted August 21, 2022 Leadership Team Share Posted August 21, 2022 LF Feb 21 has an article on refurbishing S-Type seats. It's not in the archive yet but I can send you a copy if you need one.

Leadership Team Toughie Posted August 21, 2022 Leadership Team Share Posted August 21, 2022 "I wish this forum software was better."It's one of the things the Club management is being forced to look at anyway. Unfortunately the solution is likely to be expensive.
graearea
Dammit. Seat on the other side is just as bad. tillets or oxted kit it is.

graearea
Toughie, I have sympathy. buying software services is horrible. are the side-bar covers just pipe-lagging? I don't really want to buy the whole kit to find out that I could have spent 5 quid on some.
Mechanical Moz
It's not pipe lagging, it's a thin, sticky rubber foam type. It's likely this has twisted/slipped around on the frame. Easy to reinstate with the cover off.
graearea
ah cool. well I've ordered the kit from Oxted so we'll see this weekend.
timb2117
I found both the Oxted kit and people awesome. One thing to check on while you're at it is the joints on the steel frame, couple of mine had collapsed (I'm not THAT fat honest) bit of careful TIG welding and good to go. graearea
Ooooh. I can finally use my tig welding skills for something that isn't just making scrap!
graearea
hmmm. the padding suuuuuuuuure looks like pipe lagging (oxted padding on the right, B&Q's finest on the left)I'll see about fixing one of my seats tonight. I have some spare lagging which might help.
graearea
Stuff coming out vs stuff going in. Old stuff looks like quite dense rubber. Didn't replace the rest of the foam or the plastic backing cos it looked EFFORT vs just replacing the side pads. 70 quid feels like a bit of a raw deal. I'm gonna buy some double sided tape and do the other side with my spare lagging.
timb2117
I bought the whole caboodle including leather and all up it was great, but didnt look too closely at the particular bits, as it was nice to have a whole purpose built kit and essentially new seats.... Iamscotticus
To piggyback on the subject...Does anyone know the make of the seats that came on the BDRs in the 80s to early 90s?I have the black velour with head rests I bought as spares, so I don't know which car they came off of.I have them in my 96 S3 now.See them on this link:http://www.trevorlewincars.com/CaterhamBDR.htmlnot my carStonking gorgeous car
Ballast-ic
Sevens and Classic do a seat refurb kit https://www.sevensandclassics.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/SC-Upgrade-Options-V7-2021.pdf (Page 9) for £78 which includes the plastic backs. Can't vouch for it but looks OK.
Rob D.
Hi - I had the same problem - I wasn't aware of this Oxted option, so just went to a foam shop - cut the rough shape needed, used impact adhesive to glue it in place, left it for a day and then re-stretched the leather over. It looks a proper job. RegardsRob.
