slim
My 2013 sigma powered roadsport has developed a nasty habit of periodical engine cut out. It sometimes happens when travelling along at speed, but also happens when idling. Once started again runs absolutely fine and also starts with no problems. Battery terminals are tight.Any ideas? Toby S
Check all your connections around the ignition barrel/ignition system - I had a similar problem on my K series and eventually tracked it down to that
Scotland North AR
Hi, I've got a 2009 Sigma and had a few electrical shutdowns. Suggest remove and clean the earth connections to the chassis by the battery. Same for the connections from alternator, starter motor to the battery. Disconnect multi-way connectors harness to engine, spray with Electroclean or similar, put back together with Electrolube or similar.Hope that helps. anthony1956
check the purple wire connector, located near the ECU coming across the bulkhead from the driver's side; no one tells you it's famous for causing grief until it does. It supplies power 12v feed to the ECU and gets intermittent - Sigma.. do Sigmas have the purple wire? Apologies if not.- Anthony edit"After the demise of Rover and Powertrain, Caterham started the process of phasing out the Rover K-series engine and replacing them with Ford engines; the Sigma engine for Road sports "ok so that sounds like the same wiring diagram different engine. so if it is check this connector especially the one that comnects the yellow/green wire (fuel pump), in fact the whole circuit if this problem isn't sorted soon, it runs all over the place loaded with connections that fail: but this is a k loom.. not sure I shouldn't delete this. slim
Thanks for everyone's help on this. I think I may have found the problem, a dodgy connection on the ignition system (see photo). At least the engine cuts out when you bend it.RegardsSteve
anthony1956
Well done you: dodgy connections can be hard to find, and all too often arise. Anthony
Toby S
Hopefully you've found it and its the only one - in the end I had 3 separate dodgy connections and as good union men they took it in turns which one to play up
