The Frozen North
Good morning all. After reading posts on the Vecta immobiliser leaving sevens stranded at the side of the road I am finally looking to replace my one.Any recommendations / advice on what to replace it with gratefully received. Thank you.James
Englishmaninwales
I removed my Vecta for the same reason. When I updated my insurance company they were content with a removable steering wheel alone.
Tazio
Ditto, I just removed mine
ECR
Any immobiliser system has the possibility to immobilise you and it will be in the most inconvenient location and time when it does. I was on the other side of the channel on my way to a pre booked ferry.Removal is a good idea
Gridgway
Sorry to hijack a bit, but I have a Vecta which I dislike and would like to remove. Is it very complicated so to do?
alan c
I have one as well and I also saved a set of instructions on how to remove when someone posted them years ago. Believe they are still on my pc somewhere. Not tried or tested by me but if anyone wants a copy send me a message with your email and I will send them.Alan
Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted August 9, 2022 Area Representative Share Posted August 9, 2022 I'm very happy without an immobiliser in either Caterham, a battery isolator is sufficient for me and my insurance. Add a removable steering wheel if you wish for two lines of defence.
ECR
Removal is more tedious than difficult. Unpick vecta loom and trace wires. Almost all will not be connected to anything. The few that are connected to original wiring should then be reconnected to the appropriately coloured wire in the car loom
Tazio
What Roger said, if memory serves me well, despite there being numerous wires attached to the Vecta, only two actually were connected, one to the coil, and other i think went to the the fuel pump circuit, the rest were simply run into the loom and held in place by the binding tape . madmaninshed
Hi, I have Serpistar GR410 in my 33 year old S3. It was installed in 1995. It drains the battery, so I have to disconnect the battery after every use. I will order a battery isolator switch as soon as the Ford kit is back in stock at Caterham, but would love to know how to remove the immobiliser..... Being in SW France, it is hard to find anyone knowledgeable who you can trust. I have the installation receipt, but the company AVS Security Systems of Hoddesden Herts seem to have disappeared ☹️.
