Doc007
Is there an alternative source for a Duratec lambda sensor? Caterham Parts are out of stock.
aerobod - near CYYC
It should be a standard sensor, likely Bosch or a Ford equivalent. The part number is etched into the body, just do a Google search on the number. My original sensor (R400D) was marked 0-258-003-229, available from many places, such as Opie Oils https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-116266-bosch-lambda-sensor-0258003229-ls-3229-.aspxIt can be hard to see the etched number, a strong light and moving around the sensor a bit may be necessary. Doc007
Thanks aerobod. Would the appropriate sensor come with a Caterham compatible plug on the other end?
aerobod - near CYYC
They typically do come with a 4-pin connector that is compatible with the Caterham one, if you unplug your current connector, you can compare it with the connectors shown in the sensor images. With my Caterham narrow band sensor, I swapped to a 5-pin wideband system and found the pins compatible with standard Econoseal pins, so if a different connector body is needed, the pins shouldn't need to be re-crimped. Doc007
Just checked and it looks like they are the same connectors! Ordered one from Opie Oils for roughly 1/3 the full price of the Caterham one. AND I Googled "Opie Oils discount code" and it came up with one for 15% off. Result. Thank you. aerobod - near CYYC
Excellent result. Was it the same 0-258-003-229 code on your existing sensor as my old one?
Doc007
Yes it was.
Doc007
I presume replacing the lambda sensor is plug&play? No need to calibrate?
aerobod - near CYYC
Correct, with a standard narrow band sensor just needs plugging in. If it was a wide band sensor, then many need calibration depending on the interface system.
ChrisC
Caterham use a Rover sensor on a Duratec 420, well then did in 2016 and 2019 at least. MHK10006, I got a genuine one from Rimmer Bros for my cat bypass.
aerobod - near CYYC
Hi Chris, MHK10006 is the same as a Bosch 0-258-003-229, the MHK sensor has that number engraved on it too. I think it is a case that the sensor design is licenced from and/or produced by Bosch, but the Bosch branded sensors are more readily available and generally a bit cheaper.
