Alan Reeves
I assume these have a life expectancy but does that mean a battery replacement ( cannot see how that happens ) or a new FOB ?Do we all have the same one or is it coded and...Mine used to be instant but now seems like I have to waggle it about a bit ? Drumster
Alan,I can't specifically answer your questions but I fitted a Sterling Excel/Toad immobiliser in 2007 and to date I've not had any problems.

aerobod - near CYYC
The Sterling fob is a passive RFID device, so no battery is required, but it does have to be very close to the antenna as they use the magnetic field from the antenna to power the RFID chip. They should not "age" as such, there are more likely to be problems with the antenna end if the fob is becoming less reliable.

7 wonders of the world
Common fault on these is the twin wire plug between the ariel loop and the loom - its a piss fit !Proved it on mine after which I cut it out and soldered the wires - been perfect ever since.Try giving yours an gentle touch and see it it suddenly works, the fit on the two parts of the connector is so bad the pins move and loosen hence the contacts are lost.
