Area Representative Paul Richards Posted June 7, 2022 Area Representative Share Posted June 7, 2022 My K series car is 20 years old and has been mapped to run on regular unleaded. When E10 fuel arrived I wanted to change hoses so that I could continue to use regular unleaded. However, I have given up because I also think I would need to change gaskets on the fuel pump and fuel gauge sender along with injectors and possibly some other parts. Anyone else considered E10 proofing their car?
Mechanical Moz
Land Rover have said anything from 1996 onwards is compatible so all the Rover bits should be fine. That just leaves the rubber hoses, the original hoses on my 1998 car are SAE J30 R6 so I intend to replace them with R9 from a reputable source in the winter. Area Representative Paul Richards Posted June 7, 2022 Author Area Representative Share Posted June 7, 2022 Thanks for that info Paul but what about rubber gaskets on fuel pump and gauge sender? They're not Rover are they?I'm reluctant to remove them, especially the fuel pump as it's difficult to get at and I understand prone to leaking if disturbed. Member Jonathan Kay Posted June 7, 2022 Member Share Posted June 7, 2022 Yes, automotive grade stuff has been resistant for quite a long time, but:1 Sevens last a long time and rubber parts should be considered as likely to need replacing.2 If specialist or custom parts have crept in they may not have been of the appropriate grade. There is thought to be at least one example of this.Jonathan
Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted June 7, 2022 Area Representative Share Posted June 7, 2022 Paul, after experiencing difficulty in finding 97+ fuel I had the 21 remapped to run on 95. I'll just check as things go along. As the fuel pump is out of an MGF, it ought (big word) to be OK. However, I usually fill with 97+/E5 when available. It is something of a compromise but errs towards safety.
7 wonders of the world
You might want to check the grade of hose used on the new pipe you have ordered though, last one I ordered had old hose on it and I needed to cut it off and replace it as described above, I secured with Oetiker clips (O clips)Needs to be R14https://www.gates.com/gb/en/search.p.4219-000000-000003.v.4219-06039.htmlavailable in different roll lengths
